The Underdog

Spoon is a band that I'm just getting into. Apparently they decided on the name Spoon as a way to honor a band from Germany who wrote the theme song to the movie Das Messer. The name of the song? "Spoon". Ahhh...trivial.
Anyhow, this is the video to "The Underdog". It appears to be shot in one take which is really cool but probably some real tricky editing. Enjoy.

With the #1 Pick in the 2009 NFL Draft...The Kansas City Chiefs Select...

Well the 2008 NFL Season is over...apparently the Cowboys lost Super Bowl XLIII to the Patriots...and it's time to examine the 2009 NFL Draft. This is the first Mock Draft I could find. It's from Sports Illustrated's "Fan Nation". They early talk is that the Kansas City Chiefs will take Georgia QB Matthew Stafford (pictured) with the first overall pick...never too early I guess.

You can see how accruate they were last year by clicking here.

All You Can Eat Dome Dogs?

Turns out the Minnesota Twins are looking for ways to draw people to the Metrodome for an all important Twins-Rangers game in May (wha?). Well, May 19-20, you can buy an upper level seat for $33 and proceed to eat as much as you want to. Peanuts, nachos, hot dogs? All free. Just pay $33 to watch the Twins-Rangers (ugh).

Just Like a Going to a Brewers Game

The fine people in Milwaukee seem to have found a promotion that can replicate the experience of living in Wisconsin. The Brewers and Fox 6 in Milwaukee are giving away free Brewers tickets to the first 500 men to get screened for prostate cancer today at Miller Park. It seems like a great idea...but, I'm disappointed in myself for not having a good Sausage Race joke to follow up with.

Fuku Sports Illustrated

I would like to thank Sports Illustrated in advance for (possibly) jinxing my Cubs before May. No doubt, the Cubs have been on fire but let's not get ahead of ourselves SI--there isn't someone else you could put on your cover? Dan Haren and Brandon Webb? Their cover could say "Desert Heat", I'm sure that would work out fine.
I'm going to be sick.

3's & 7's

Today's music video of the day is "3's & 7's" by Queens of the Stone Age. It's like watching a music video that was directed by Quentin Tarantino...think "Death Proof" but with a stoner rock band.

This Just Got Interesting

The Atlanta Hawks seemed to have forgotten that they are the Atlanta Hawks. How else do you explain their performance last night in game 2 against the Celtics? Joe Johnson put together the best performance of the playoffs this year (messing around and going for 20 of his 35 in the 4th quarter), leading the underdog Hawks to a 97-92 victory.

The most amazing part of the game wasn't just Johnson. It was how the Hawks really believe they can hang with Boston--they won't back down. But it should be interesting to see how they respond when they head to Boston for game 5.

I'm pretty sure the entire city of Atlanta considers this a victory--regardless of what the Hawks do the rest of the series. Seriously though, who would've thought Boston and Detroit would be tied at 2-2 in their respective series?

Barry Zito is Like "Waterworld" With a Curveball

The Barry Zito era in San Francisco has been off to a fast start. 11 victories in 39 starts, it should be no surprise that Zito is finding himself on the way to the bullpen.
Last off season, when Zito was avaliable to the highest bidder, I wanted to see my Cubs throw the bank at him...I would be an unemployed GM if I had a say in it.

Well, the folks over at the San Francisco Chronicle seem to be having fun with the situation by creating a salary calculator so you can be reminded by how much more an 0-6 pitcher with a 7.53 ERA makes than you.

When the news about Zito came out today, I remembered an article I read last week about Zito that was written by Jeff Pearlman (it was written last summer). It's a very good read if you have the time. It mainly deals with Zito's attitude change over the course of his career.

I'm Worried That This Story Didn't Surprise Me More Than It Did

This story is a couple of hours old already but I'll post it (practice makes perfect). First off, in the last six months, Roger Clemens has done more to damage his reputation than any athlete I've ever witnessed in my life. Now this story from New York Daily News:

"Roger Clemens carried on a decade-long affair with country star Mindy McCready, a romance that began when McCready was a 15-year-old aspiring singer performing in a karaoke bar and Clemens was a 28-year-old Red Sox ace and married father of two..."

The worst part about this story is I'm not sure there's anything worse Clemens could do realistically. I suppose he could rape dead puppies...but it's not likely. Of course, this story didn't seem likely last week, so I guess all puppy morgues should be on alert.
Apparently McCready had a remotely successful career from 1996-2002. Since 2002, she has done a pretty good job of impersonating a former child star with the drugs, identity theft, DWIs, and such.

This is Really Getting Out of Hand

Found this article from the New York Sun talking about how gas prices might be headed to $10/gallon. Fun times.

Early Morning Tony

A long time ago, as we all know (well--people my age and older at the very least), MTV used to play nothing but music videos. Eventually, they moved on to original programming which for a while was entertaining ("The State", "Dead at 21", "Remote Control")...eventually they lost focus and decided to make aneurysm-inducing shows like "The Hills", "A Shot of Love With Tila Tequila", and "My Super Sweet 16".
Eventually, music videos no longer had a place on MTV. The few videos you might find on the network seem to follow a simple formula:
1. Bright lights
2. More thongs=better
3. Smile so the world can see your grillz.

Long story short, the first regular feature (providing I don't get too lazy with it) on The Reach Around is "Music Video of the Day".

This week's music video: Felt, "Early Morning Tony"

The First Post

Hello to all who somehow found this site. I'll be honest, I'm not exactly sure where this is headed. Actually, I don't know what the main point of having this blog. Regardless, it's a wait and see process...stay tuned...
