A Columbia sociology professor has made an interesting claim after studying "Grand Theft Auto IV". Sudhir Venkatesh, who has written a book on gang life, says the realism in the video game, "actually offered a less sensational portrait of gangland and ghetto streets than the one put out by most cops, politicians, policymakers, and even academics."
Venkatesh, who wrote his review of the game for the newest issue of "Slate" actually spent time running with a gang from Chicago to help his research for the book. The article is quite interesting and worth a read.
I have a few friends who have suggested boycotting "Madden 09" because Brett Favre was named cover athlete (it's a good idea, but really?). The only problem is there aren't too many other options out there for football games...until now! Ladies and gentlemen ages 21-35, "Tecmo Bowl" returns! Ok, so maybe the news isn't that great. I mean, Tecmo can't just walk out of my life for so many years...then come back...and then expect me to care?! Well, abandonment issues aside, the game will be availabe for Nintendo DS only. Other details are few and far between. So consider this a teaser. We don't even have a release date. 2008? 2009? Either way, "Tecmo Bowl" is coming back. Bo Jackson might be 45, but he's ready go.
